Village Heath Teams (VHTs) are the front line of the Uganda’s health system

June 25, 2024

Village Heath Teams (VHTs) are the front line of the Uganda’s health system (including mental health), and they key to its effective operation. They are groups of volunteers appointed by the Government and given some very basic training. They are in every village and know their local community. When someone has an illness, either physical or mental, they do all that they can to refer the person to local health centres or hospitals. YouBelong Uganda is involved in their training and supervision, even on very remote VHTs on islands in Lake Victoria.
